Having walked down from the car park under a glorious clear blue sky, we were welcomed in the porch with a brief history of Chastleton House.
The house was decorated throughout in the style of a 1960s Christmas; paper chains and home-made baubles certainly brought back childhood memories.
As we were touring the house, we realised we were spending all our time looking at early versions of scrabble, monopoly, tiddlywinks etc, as well as the appetising snacks (not real) on offer, and totally ignoring the features of the house itself, which means a return visit outside the festive season would be a good plan.
A big surprise was found in the long gallery at the top of the house, where a display showed how an uncle, who was an RAF officer, delivered Christmas presents in a slightly unusual way - by aeroplane.
This visit was really worthwhile, and thanks are due to Gillian who organised it.
